5 Plumbing Myths Debunked

It is important to have your plumbing working correctly in your home. If something goes wrong, it can result in major damages. If you find something wrong with your plumbing, it is important to contact a plumber immediately. Below, we will go over five plumbing myths that most people don't know about.

"It doesn't matter who your plumber is..."

Some people will take the time to compare different contractors for different types of jobs. They will seek out reviews and listen to referrals. When it comes to plumbers, people generally skip the steps. This is not a good idea. There are often many solutions to a plumbing problem and a more experienced plumber will be able to find the solutions that will get the job done a lot quicker and save you a lot of money.

There is no need to worry until the drain is clogged

Most people wait until there is a blockage in their drain to do something about it. This is not a good idea. You should consider having your drain repaired soon as you notice any leaking or any slow draining water. If you see either of these, it means there is a problem with your drain. A problem like this will only get worse the longer you wait. If you wait until the drain is completely clogged or there is a big problem, it will become a much more costly repair.

"It is okay clean bathroom fixtures with hand soap."

This is not true. Although it is easy to quickly remove light stains and scum that slowly builds up on your faucet, this will have a negative impact on them in the long run. Hand soap will slowly corrode your bathroom fixtures and faucets. Instead, you should use specialized cleaners that are specifically made for cleaning bathroom and kitchen faucets and fixtures. This will extend the life of them and save you money in the long run.

"Lemons will clean your garbage disposal."

Davie Plumbing Myths

Although lemons do cover a lot of the unpleasant scent that can accumulate in your garbage disposal, it does not actually clean it out. The citric acid in the lemons can actually cause damage to the disposal. Not only does it fail to remove rotting food particles from your disposal, but it can also corrode metal in the disposal over time. You should never put lemons in your garbage disposal for this reason.

"Plumbing is a do-it-yourself project."

Many people feel that they are able to fix plumbing issues themselves. This is not a good idea. Unless you are experienced, you may risk making a simple problem worse by trying to repair it yourself. Instead, make sure that you hire a professional to come out and look at any plumbing issue that you have in your house.
