The Plumbing Emergency that Shouldn't Be One

You dream of a home, a place to call your own. Finally it has taken some time, some work and a lot of effort to get that home you want. You think your work is finished, but it really isn’t.

You see, with a new home comes certain responsibilities you may not have had before; this includes caring for your drainage and plumbing system to prevent emergencies from happening. And the only way to prevent problems is really to call in an expert for a yearly inspection.

A new home is a happy time for the whole family. It’s a time to enjoy your family and your home. But a clogged drain, a trashed garbage disposal or broken dishwasher can ruin the “Home Sweet Home” you’ve created for your family. Not to worry though.

You don’t have to put up with costly repairs. You can plan for those plumbing problems and prevent plumbing emergencies from happening, especially during those moments you really don’t need the plumbing system to fail. Learn from our experts on how to avoid those horrible plumbing emergencies for your new home.

What Causes the Plumbing Problem?

When a plumbing system is used by a whole family it can become stressed especially in older homes. Sometimes it’s just usage that makes something break. To prevent this from happening it’s best to call in a plumbing professional once a year to come and inspect your system.

The Kitchen

When it comes to your kitchen appliances it’s best to read the manuals for all your appliances. Make sure you follow best practices for your disposal and dispose of small amounts of food. Be sure to keep the water running while using the disposal, and above all keep that cooking oil and grease out of the drains.

The Bathroom

Tell everyone to give the shower a time distance of about 10 to 15 minutes between showers. The drains will drain properly this way before the next person showers.

Prevention is Key

An emergency call to the plumber can be very expensive, and you don’t want to be stuck with a high cost bill for repair work that could have been prevented.

If you notice slow drains, a poorly working disposal, or a dishwasher that’s not working properly, it’s best to call in a professional before the problem becomes a real issue, one where you can’t work or use the plumbing fixtures.

Besides when you have an emergency you are never guaranteed that the plumber will arrive immediately. Additionally an emergency service call may be serious, the plumber may not have the parts to fix the problem, or an issue that was at one point, not a big problem has grown much worse – and so much more expensive.

The decision is ultimately yours but in the end real estate and property management experts agree, it is better to be safer than sorry. It is less expensive to call in an expert early on and pay less for an inspection than it is for a fix later on.
